In 1972, Audemars Piguet delivered the first Royal Oak. This octagon bezel, connective lug and bracelet started a new era in watch designing in 1970th. The first Royal Oak was a 5402ST, which nicknamed A series. 39 mm case was a pretty big watch, and big rivets and connective lug are off-the track. The great popularity of Royal Oak saved Audemars Piguet from going to the edge of bankrupt. Now Royal Oak series has taken up 60 percent of revenue of all the sales and General Genta, who designed the Royal Oak, had gone famous and designed many derivatives. In 1972, a Royal Oak sold for 3200 Swiss Franc, to timer higher than a Rolex Submariner steel edition. Here we could conclude that Royal Oak had captured the niche for high-end sport watches.
Royal Oak Concept watch
To crown the whole, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore have shaped Audemars Piguet. Now Offshore is an independent series whose size is more favorable for sports and daily needs. Audemars Piguet prefers white, blue and black on the dial, and chooses steel and gold as the material for the case. It is much brave and in the material and color combination. But this is by no means the rule. In the 2002 when Audemars Piguet celebrated Royal Oak 30 anniversary, it has a 150 Concept watches which completely broke the traditional elements. This concept watch is made of Alacrite 602 alloy and has an amazing performance on resist abrasion. In 2011 and 2014, two different concept watches are promoted.
The above concept watches have the similar layout. Left side tourbillon and naked bridge protection are innovation arts. New materials, like titanium alloy and carbon fiber are applied. Finally, the case rise to 44 mm in terms of its diameter and that goes contrary to the traditional Royal Oak. Anyway, they have a wide recognition in the collection circle.
